IROULEGUY CELLAR
Nestled in the heart of the northern Basque Country, on the French side, the Irouleguy cooperative winery is a testament to the passion and dedication of the region's winegrowers. Founded in 1952 by nine fervent winegrowers, the Irouleguy Winery has become an emblem of unity and tradition, still preserving its cooperative spirit today.
The Irouléguy winery is located on a special terroir, where the vines cling to the steep slopes and reach towards the sky. The soil is a mixture of clay, limestone and sandstone, which gives a unique soil composition that gives a distinct character to the grapes. The climate, a harmonious blend of Atlantic influences and mountain protection, favors the cultivation of three key grape varieties: Tannat, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
In an interview, one winemaker passionately declared: "Our wines are like our land, vibrant, robust, but subtly complex. Each bottle tells the story of the Basque spirit." Indeed, Irouleguy wine is distinguished by its lively acidity, powerful tannins and complex flavors ranging from dark fruits to earthy notes.
In 2023, the Irouléguy cooperative was recognized for its "Exceptional Offer" in the "Promotion of a Terroir" category of the Wine Tourism Trophies. Demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and tradition, the cooperative continues to produce AOC Irouléguy wines that reflect not only the distinct terroir, but also the heart and soul of the Irouleguy region.
With every sip, you can taste the essence of the Basque Country, the dedication of its winegrowers and the unique character of the Irouleguy cooperative winery. More than just a wine, it is a sensory journey into a region rich in history and passion.
