TERROIR
The vines, with an average age of about 30 years, are planted on south and southwest-facing slopes at an altitude of approximately 250 m, in soils of red sandstone, ophite, and limestone. Harvesting is done by hand.
THE CAVE D'IROULÉGUY
Nestled in the heart of the Northern Basque Country, on the French side, the Cave d'Irouléguy cooperative winery bears witness to the passion and dedication of the region's winemakers. Founded in 1952 by nine fervent winemakers, the winery has become an emblem of unity and tradition, still preserving its cooperative spirit today.
The vineyard clings to steep slopes on soil blending clay, limestone, and sandstone. The climate, influenced by the Atlantic and protected by the mountains, favors local grape varieties: Tannat, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds; Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, and Petit Courbu for the whites.
In 2023, the cooperative was awarded for its "Exceptional Offer" in the "Promotion of a Terroir" category at the Wine Tourism Trophies.
