The vines, averaging about 30 years old, are planted on south and southwest-facing slopes at an altitude of about 250 m, on soils of red sandstone, ophite, and limestone. Harvesting is done by hand.
THE CAVE D'IROULÉGUY
Nestled in the heart of the Northern Basque Country, on the French side, the Irouléguy cooperative winery reflects the passion and dedication of the region's winemakers. Founded in 1952 by nine enthusiastic vine growers, the cellar has become an emblem of unity and tradition, preserving its cooperative spirit to this day.
The vineyard clings to steep slopes on soil blending clay, limestone, and sandstone. The climate, influenced by both the Atlantic and the protection of the mountains, favors local grape varieties: Tannat, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds; Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, and Petit Courbu for the whites.
In 2023, the cooperative was rewarded for its "Exceptional Offer" in the "Promoting a Terroir" category at the Wine Tourism Trophies.
