TERROIR
The vines, with an average age of about 30 years, are planted on south and southwest-facing slopes, at an altitude of approximately 250 m, on red sandstone, ophite, and limestone soils. The harvest is done by hand.
THE CAVE D'IROULÉGUY
Nestled in the heart of the Northern Basque Country, on the French side, the Cave d'Irouléguy cooperative winery bears witness to the passion and dedication of the region's winemakers. Founded in 1952 by nine fervent growers, the winery has become an emblem of unity and tradition, still preserving its cooperative spirit today.
The vineyard clings to steep slopes, on soil mixing clay, limestone, and sandstone. The climate, between Atlantic influences and the protection of the mountains, favors local grape varieties: Tannat, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds; Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, and Petit Courbu for the whites.
In 2023, the cooperative was awarded for its "Exceptional Offer" in the "Promoting a Terroir" category of the Wine Tourism Trophies.
